Palliative care uses an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to reduce suffering and to improve the quality of life of patients battling with life-threatening illnesses. The need for palliative care will continue to grow because the ageing population is rising at an unprecedented rate and the number of people with chronic or life-threatening diseases continue to increase. This means there is a need to expand the roles of pharmacists in the palliative care setting to meet current and future demands.
