Overview

About this course

Metabolic dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) is a condition that requires both a clinical diagnosis of a metabolic condition and a radiologic confirmation of hepatic steatosis. It is recognized as the most common cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. Its pathogenesis is multifactorial, and its disease progression is primarily caused by systemic inflammation and insulin resistance. The diagnosis of MAFLD can be initially identified at the primary care level, and those who are at risk for disease progression into liver fibrosis must be referred to a specialist for further assessment.

This e-learning module aims to discuss MAFLD and its disease progression from hepatic steatosis to liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, along with the appropriate diagnostic approach and treatment.
