Over the years, compounding and dispensing of medicines have become one of the hallmark practices of the pharmacy profession. However, compounding has become less prominent since pharmaceutical industries began to manufacture medicinal products on a large-scale basis, with better reproducibility and lower cost. Despite this, pharmacy compounding is important as the industry produced population-based medicines, with limited range of doses and dosage forms, may not meet the needs of all patients. Hence, when no other options are available, tailored pharmacological therapies can be provided to patients with unique medical needs through pharmacy compounding.
