Overview
Dizziness is a common, non-specific symptom which affects 15-35% of the general population. Vertigo,
described as a sensation of spinning, is the most frequent type of dizziness. Vertigo can be classified into
disorders of the peripheral or central vestibular system, with the latter often suggesting a more serious
underlying pathology. The management and referral of acute vertigo is specific for its different causes,
thus, distinguishing central from peripheral vertigo is essential.
This e-learning module highlights
peripheral vertigo, its most common causes, and demonstrates a stepwise approach to its diagnosis and
management.
