Overview
Infertility is defined as the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. This common reproductive pathology, affecting 1 in 6 people globally, results in a multitude of negative psychosocial consequences to individuals and relationships. Therefore, the primary care physician must be equipped with the knowledge on initial evaluation of an infertile couple, including basics of ovulation detection and assessment of other female and male factors of this condition.
The first step in the initial evaluation of an infertile couple is determining clinical evidence of ovulation as ovulatory dysfunction comprises 20-40% of all infertility factors. If ovulation is occurring, other female and male factors must be investigated as infertility treatment is dependent on the underlying etiology.
This e-learning module aims to provide the primary care physician with the skillset to effectively perform initial infertility evaluation and diagnosis and introduce treatment options to couples facing this problem.
