Overview

NEW!

Insulin sensitivity allows cells to respond to insulin effectively. Insulin resistance impedes insulin function resulting in larger amounts of insulin required to maintain glucose homeostasis. If left unchecked, insulin resistance can lead to beta-cell overload, prediabetes and ultimately type 2 diabetes. This learning activity aims to highlight the impact of obesity on insulin sensitivity and how it may lead to metabolic syndrome, and to understand the relationship between macronutrients and its effect on insulin sensitivity.
