Owing to its efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness for pain relief, ibuprofen is on the World Health Organisation’s List of Essential Medicines.1 This module presents updated information on ibuprofen, taken from current reviews and analyses, to give participants a better understanding on:
• The gastrointestinal and cardiovascular safety of ibuprofen
• The efficacy of ibuprofen compared with newer analgesics
• The status of ibuprofen as one of the safest² options for analgesia available to patients
