Overview
Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the airways that may have periods of adequate symptom control with episodes of exacerbations that are beyond the normal day-to-day fluctuation of baseline function. Exacerbations may occur with or without triggers hence it is important to recognize patients at risk for exacerbation. In addition, the severity of exacerbations should likewise be assessed in the clinic to determine the appropriate management for these patients. This e-learning module reviews the recognition, assessment, and management of acute asthma exacerbation in primary care with a special discussion on COVID-19 and asthma.
