Overview
Pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are two types of venous thromboembolism (VTE) that affect around 10 million people worldwide. It is a major cause of death and disability, and leads to poor quality of life. Identification of provoking factors, and prompt diagnosis and assessment, can help ensure adequate treatment would be given to the patient. This e-learning module explores the different provoking factors of VTE, discusses how to establish the diagnosis, and expounds on medical treatment options available for PE and DVT. It also reviews the clinical findings that would warrant hospitalization or specialist referral.
